hit Charlottetown this weekend

CHARLOTTETOWN - Charlottetown is going to be the Softball capital of Canada
- at least for the weekend.
Two major Eastern Canadian Intermediate 'B' Men's and Ladies championships,
featuring teams from Ontario east, will be held on the weekend here at
Spring Lane, City Diamond, Queen Elizabeth and Central Fields.
On the men's side, the host Homes for Sale team from Charlottetown, who
play in the capital city orthodox league, St. Louis Storm and Alberton
Athletics - both of the Source for Sports Men's Intermediate Fast Pitch
League - will wear the P.E.I. colours at the eight team event, which will
see teams from New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and P.E.I. compete.
Games begin Friday at 2 p.m. at City Diamond as Home For Sale takes on
Moncton Keith's.
The other Island entries get to see action at 4 p.m. when the St Louis
Storm take on the East Hants Henchman while Alberton Athletics play the
tournament favourite Pictou Extreme, the Nova Scotia champions.
Stewiacke River Rats and Hoyt Schooners of New Brunswick end day one with
an 8 p.m. game. The championship is set for 2 p.m. Sunday at City Diamond.
The St. Louis Storm will have Charlottetown Fawcett pickup Chris Craig and
Kinkora Hitmen ace Frank MacAree on the3 slab for them leading the potent
offense led by Robbie Gallant.
Alberton will be led by a full team effort starting on the slab with
Kinkora Hitmen pickup Craig Manuel, Mitch Hardy and Troy Ellsworth plus the
speedy Kyle Fraser off an impressive outing with the Hitmen in St. Thomas,
Ont. At the Senior Men's Nationals.
The division sponsors are Alpine and Moose Light. In the Alpine division
are Pictou, Alberton, Moncton and Homes for Sale. Moose Light division
consits of Hoyt N.B., East Hants, St. Louis Storm and Stewiacke River Rats.
YOGI'S HOST LADIES CHSHIP
In the Intermediate ladies division, 10 teams will converge on Queen
Elizabeth, Central Fields for the championship, headed by organizer Robbie
Veinot.
The host Yogi's gets their action underway at 3 p.m. with a game against
Clarkson Scarlett's. The Scarlett's open the tournamet with an 11 a.m. game
against Carguys.
Other day one games sees the Lions take on the Dartmouth She-Devils of Nova
Scotia at 1 p.m.; the She Devils play Carguys at 5 p.m. and Yogi's play the
Lions at 8 p.m.
Action kicks off Saturday at 9 a.m. at Queen Elizabeth Field. Opening
ceremonies take place at 7 p.m. at Central Field.
Other teams in the event include the Portneuf, Pontiacs, Eel Ground Angels,
Friends de Montreal and 9 Degrees.
