Ottawa, ON

The Gee Gees were in Napanee on the weekend to start the 2005 season. They
played division rival Queens to start the year before moving to play York
and then last years champions University of Guelph. The team started strong
with a 8-0 win against Queens behind massive triples from Nicole Dunlop and
Lindsey McLaughlin. Lynn Kearns pitched a gem in her first game as a Gee
Gee keeping Gaels hitters off balance in a game that was stopped after 5
innings.

The second game saw the team up against some of the former Gee Gees
coaching staff. The team jumped to an early 6-0 lead in the first and
cruised from then on. Jillian Taylor, another Gee Gee rookie pitcher was
excellent in throwing a shutout in her first gamein the Garnett and
Grey. The team added a run in the 6th to force an early end.

The third game on Saturday evening would prove to be an excellent one
facing the last two OIWFA champions. Guelph had a great start to their
season as well beating Carleton and the University of Toronto. The Gee
Gees jumped to a 1-0 lead in the second inning and the score remained there
for 6 innings. Melissa Oddie was pitching for Guelph who won the National
Championship with the Senior Brampton Blazers this summer. In the bottom
of the 6th with the bases loaded Lynn Kearns unleashed a triple down the
left field line to break the game open. 3 runs score and the Gee Gees went
on to a 4-0 victory. Lindsey Hutton took the win in her first start of the
year. She threw 7 sparkling innings allowing no runs on 5 scattered hits.

The team started slow against rival University of Toronto in their only
game on Sunday. Behing Kingston native Ashley Sands who pitched a great
game in front of a whole pack of relatives. In an intense game that gave
credit to the friendly rivalry between the two teams the Varsity Blues
jumped to a 2-0 lead on several uncharacteristic Gee Gee errors. The team
struggled offensively through 5 innings, as the team left several runners
in scoring position. A massive double by Pam Hrick and a pair of singles
by rookie Heather Huggins led to no runs before a single by Sam Pantalone
and an Erin Durant two-run double to tied it up. The game was knotted at
two going into the 7th inning when the Blues pushed across the go ahead
run. Lindsey McLaughlin entered the game for the Garnett in Grey and made a
momentum building catch on a bunt before leading off the inning with a
double. Another double from Danna Masters sent the game into extra
innings. Smart baserunning and a Toronto error allowed the winning run to
score to cap off a Ottawa U come from behind win. Allison Hibbet caught the
final game for the Gee Gees and capped off an excellent weekend for her.
She played great defense and contributed with several key hits.

The team will be in very good shape in the cirlcle for this year and years
to come with their pitching staff. Aces wild is usually a good sign for
teams, but this team has 4 of a kind. 4 very strong pitchers will help
lead this team for the season. Two rookies Lynn Kearns and Jillian Taylor
were fantastic in their debuts, throwing a shutout each and hitting very
well. Ashley Sands and Lindsey Hutton are returning aces from the 2004
season and both threw gems of their own.

The team is thrilled to have help from Jim Coudry who is one of the best
pitchers ever to play for Canada. He has won 3 ISF World Championships and
holds the record for most innings pitched at the World level. Jim helped
Team Ontario's pitchers in their preparation for the Canada Games and has
been invaluable in teachig the Gee Gees pitchers from his vast knowledge of
the game. Thank you Jim!

The team heads to St. Catharines next weekend to compete against the
Western division at Jordan Lions Park. As always fan support is much
appreciated, come watch some of the best ball in Ontario.
