Wyevale, ON

The Simcoe Rural Fastball League held their annual awards ceremony on
Saturday aboard the Miss Midland on the high seas of Georgian Bay. It was
a perfect night for boat cruise, and the league capped off a successful
season with an entertaining tour of the Midland/Penetang area.

Steve Courtemanche accepted the Play-Off Championship Trophy on behalf of
the Minesing Monarchs. The Monarchs downed the Wyevale Tribe in 6 games in
the finals.

For the second straight year there were co-winners of the Playoff MVP
award. This year Jamie Grant, and Greg McLean shared the honor, as their
contributions to the play-offs were recognized.

The regular season championship trophy went to the Wyevale Tribe, and Shane
Bywater accepted on behalf of the Tribe. The Tribe was 14-4 on the
season. They were closely followed by Vasey 13-4-1 and Minesing at 12-4-2.

The Rookie of Year Award went to the Tribe's Graham McNabb. Graham had a
wonderful rookie campaign that saw him bat .369 with 3 HR's, and 15
RBI's. Graham can now been seen centering the second line of the Brampton
Battalion in the OHL.

The Most Sportsmanlike Award went to Vasey's Pete Robinson. Pete was a
past recipient of this award, and thanked him Mom and Dad and in an
emotional acceptance speech.

The Most Valuable Pitcher Award went to Jason Giffen of the Wyevale
Tribe. This was Jason's 3rd consecutive and 5th in the last 7 years. Jason
amassed 302 strikeouts (1.6 per inning) this year to go along with his
miniscule 1.71 ERA.

The Most Valuable Player Award went the Tribe's Mike Kelly.

Overall the SRFL enjoyed a very good 2005 season. The league would like to
see 1 or 2 more teams join the 7 current teams. Once a hotbed of fastball,
the Georgian Bay area has seen a rapid decline in competitive fastball
especially at the minor ball level.

This year the SRFL had 1 new entrant (Uhthoff Nationals) in 2005. This was
highlighted by fact that Mike Crawford toed the rubber on occasion for the
Nationals. It was a rocky first season for the Nationals but definitely
something to build upon.

The Perkinsfield squad tried to follow up a stellar 2004 playoff run which
saw them force the eventual champions from Vasey to a 5th and deciding
game. It was not to be as Perkinsfield failed to live up to the promise of
the year before.

The Toanche Srs battled hard all year long, but slipped below the 500 mark
this year. A little help for Kevin Foster, who logged almost all of the
innings is their off season, would go a long way.

The Toanche Jrs in just their 3rd season in the SRFL pulled their heads
above the 500 level for the first time. Simply an outstanding season for
the Jrs which saw them finish 2nd at the OASA Jr "B", and the bulk of their
players participated in the OASA Midget "C" which they won. A very young
team riddled with talent, and a definite asset to the SRFL.

Vasey, Minesing, and the Tribe continued their dominance of the
league. These 3 teams have been battling for league supremacy of the last
few years, and no one team has been able to distance themselves from the
others.

A good 2005, will hopefully lead into a great 2006 for the SRFL as we will
try to build on the current momentum the league seems to have.
