27 participants showed up Saturday at the Hollywood Sports Complex west of
Minneapolis. The clinic was
a first for this area and for some participants it made a lasting
impression. H&S Fastpitch recruited
Michael White from Eugene, OR to lead the participants through a gauntlet
of strategy, training and mechanics.
A powerpoint presentation utilizing software video and photos were from
World Championship competitions down
to backyard practice session. Anyone could relate to the
instruction. After a lunch break the group went out to
the diamond for demonstration and one on one instruction. Mike's
demonstration of hitting spots and then building
strength by practicing "long toss" will not be forgotten soon as he pitched
to home from centerfield. Though not a difficult
feat for many world class pitchers it was the accuracy at which he
commanded and how comfortable he looked doing it.
As the end of clinic neared many of the participants and additional local
players broke into two teams. Players
from the IS Knights, PBI, Custom Rock, ABS Villard, Vannelli's and H&S
Fastpitch played two 5 inning games. No score
was kept and there was no shortage of pitchers... A very big thankyou to
all that participated and especially to
Michael White for taking his time and the effort that he put into this.
I would encourage those of you out there trying resurrect Men's Fastpitch
in your area to set up a format such as this. It
has given us a shot of adrenaline heading into next year. If you have
