Fastpitching to Excellence!

Who will be crowned Australian Softball's finest?

On 22 October 2005, Softball Australia will recognise some of the greatest 
in its history when players, officials and administrators gather for the 
fourth annual Awards of Excellence Dinner in Canberra.

"Australia is the top softball nation in the world and it's important that 
we recognise and honour those who have not only achieved excellence in 
playing the game, but also who have helped provide quality in all areas of 
the sport over the past year," said Susan Crow, Chief Executive of Softball 
Australia.

The awards are designed to honour exemplary achievement in categories such 
as coaching, officiating, athletic performance (male and female), spirit, 
administration and information technology.

Special recognition will also be made to the Australian Under 19 Men's 
team, the Aussie Colts, currently ranked one in the world, for etching 
their name in the history books by winning their third consecutive World 
Championship title in Canada in July 2005.

Three of the game's greats will also be acknowledged. Joanne Brown (ACT) 
who represented Australia at two Olympic Games and three Open Women's World 
Championships and Lindsey Carroll (ACT) who played at two Open Men's World 
Championships (USA 1996 and South Africa 2000) and was Head Coach of the 
Australian Under 19 Men's team, guiding them to two World Championships, 
will be inducted into Softball Australia's Hall of Fame. Ken Culpitt (ACT) 
will be presented with a Life Membership for his active contribution both 
on and off the diamond since 1979.

Winners in 2005 are nominated by the state and territory associations of 
Softball Australia and will be announced on the night.
