(Ottawa) Softball Canada's Women's National team
defeated Creighton 4-1 in their first
game at the Nebraska Fall Classic in Lincoln,
Nebraska. The tournament is part of
Softball Canada's Senior Women's National Team
selection camp to select a final roster
that will represent Canada at the Pan American
Softball Championship in late November.
The Pan American Championship serves as a
qualifier for the 2006 World Championship, and
the 2007 Pan American Games.

Lauren Bay (Trail, BC) earned the win for Canada;
Bay pitched 4 shutout innings allowing
no hits, no base on balls and she struck out a
remarkable 10 Creighton batters. Ashley
Lanz (Winnipeg, MB) entered the game in the 5th
inning, allowing 1 hit, 1 run, and 1
base on ball in three innings of work.

In the bottom of the 1st inning, with 1 out,
Kristy Odamura (Richmond, BC) hit a
single. Odamura advanced to 2nd on a wild pitch,
then to 3rd on a pass ball. Sheena
Lawick (Calgary, AB) followed up with an RBI
single up the middle, scoring Odamura.
Alison Bradley (Pinkerton, ON) reached 1st base
on an error. With 2 out, Tamra Howren
(Surrey, BC) singled to right field, scoring
Lawrick and Bradley. Canada was up 3-0
after 1 inning of play. Canada added another run
in the bottom of the 2nd inning on an
Odamura single that scored Melanie Matthews (Surrey, BC).

Canada will face Creighton again at 6PM in the
second half of the double header.
