National League coaches ready to put pen to paper
Thursday October 27th 2005

The first steps in the 2005/06 New Zealand Community Trust NationalLeague
will be made tomorrow when franchise coaches name their list
ofprotected players.

Going into tomorrow coaches have the option of naming their full
team of14 as protected, or they can name as few as eight and
go to the playerdraft and selected the rest of their squad.

There is an exception to the rule though in the case of the CentralVikings
and Southern Pride franchises who have the option of naming onlyfour
protected players and picking their remaining players from thedraft.
An exception has been made to the rule in the case of the twofranchises
due to the limited player base in both regions.

Once the squads are finalised the National League will get underway
onSaturday November 19th with teams drawn to face each other
twice duringround robin play which will be held over three weekends
around thecountry. There will be a break in the National League
on December 3rd and4th due to an international series to be held
in Auckland between the NewZealand Community Trust Black Sox
and Samoa.

The final series of the National League for both the men’s and
women’scompetitions will be held at Hataitai Park, Wellington
on December 17thand 18th.

In the women’s league there are five teams entered and Hutt Valley
holdthe title of defending champions. While in the men’s league
there are sixteams entered and Wellington has the task of winning
the men’s title fora second consecutive time.

There are a few new faces on the coaching front for the 2005/06
leaguewith former Black Sox captain Carl Gould taking over the
reigns of theAuckland men’s team while former Central Vikings
men’s coach PaulStockford will lead Hutt Valley and Peter Flood
is in charge for CentralVikings.

In the women’s league Wayne Nichols will coach the Wellington
team andKath McGilbert is in charge of the Southern Pride side
while CentralVikings are still to name their women’s coach.
