Canada Improves to 3-0 Defeating Colombia 6-0
November 27th, 2005

(Ottawa) Softball Canada’s Women’s National team improved to 3-0 on Sunday 
night at the
VI Pan American Softball Championship, defeating Colombia 6-0.

Robin Mackin (Newmarket, ON) was on the mound for Canada; Mackin allowed 
only two hits
and struck out 14 batters on her way to the win.

Offensively Canada was led by Kristy Odamura (Richmond, BC) who went 2-3 at 
the plate
and scored two runs.  Sheena Lawrick (Calgary, AB), Alison Bradley 
(Pinkerton, ON), and
Erin Cumpstone (Saskatoon, SK) were all 1 for 3 with one run scored.  Cindy 
Eadie
(Brantford, ON) recorded one hit, as well as Rachel Schill (Kitchener, ON) 
who also
scored a run.

With the score 1-0 in the fifth inning, Canada opened the 
floodgates.  Eadie led off
with a single and was then replaced by pinch runner Erin Gee (Vancouver, 
BC). Gee stole
second, and then advanced to third base on a Brittany Freight (Las Vegas, 
NV) fielder’s
choice.  Gee was thrown out at home attempting to score on a Schill 
fielder’s choice to
the Colombian third baseman.  With Schill at first, Odamura singled 
followed by a
Lawrick two-run single to right field.  Bradley followed up with a 
double.  Lawrick
recorded a run on a wild pitch.  Cumpstone then singled, and stole second 
to once again
put runners at second and third.
Megan Timpf (Port Dover, ON) hit a deep fly ball to right field that 
allowed Bradley and
Cumpstone to score on the Columbian fielder’s error.

Canada won shortened game 6-0, as play was stopped due to the International 
Softball
Federations run-rule.

Canada returns to action on Monday afternoon at 4:30PM against a strong 
Argentinean
squad.
