Canada Shuts-Out Argentina: Moves to 4-0
November 28th, 2005

(Ottawa) Canada defeated Argentina 7-0 at the VI Pan American Softball 
Championship to
increase its record to 4-0.  The VI Pan American Softball Championship 
serves as a
qualifier for both the 2006 World Championships as well as the 2007 Pan 
American Games.

Auburn Sigurdson (Surrey, BC) got the start in the circle and earned the 
win; Sigurdson
gave up one hit, struck out ten batters and allowed two base on 
balls.  Canada was led
offensively by Alison Bradley (Pinkerton, ON) and Tamra Howren (Vancouver, 
BC) who each
recorded two hits.  Canada has yet to allow a run in the tournament.

With the score 4-0 for Canada after five innings of play; Kristy Odamura 
(Richmond, BC)
led off the sixth with a single.  Odamura then stole her way to third 
base.  Erin Gee
(Vancouver, BC) followed up with an RBI single, making the score 5-0 for 
Canada.  Tamra
Howren (Surrey, BC) ended the game by hitting a two-run home run, with the 
game called
due to the International Softball Federation’s run-rule.

Head Coach Lori Sippel quoted after the game; "This game presented our 
biggest challege
yet.  It was an odd game from the first pitch and I am proud of the way the 
players
handled each situation and moved forward. Auburn Sigurdson worked through 
the first 2
innings and found her groove to close the game out with a 1 hitter.  Tamra 
Howren and
Alison Bradley were the spark plugs offensively with multiple hit 
performances.
Howren's 2 run blast was a great way to close out the game."

Canada’s next action in the VI Pan American Softball Championship is 
tomorrow afternoon
at 14:30 against Ecuador.
