FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
December 21, 2005

(Ottawa) Softball Canada’s Women’s National team will take to the field at the
International Softball Federation Headquarters in Plant City, Florida from 
January 2-8,
2006 for an evaluation camp.  This camp will serve to select a core group 
of athletes
for both the Senior and Elite Teams for 2006.

“The first step was to qualify for the Worlds which we did earlier this 
month.  Holding
a camp in January gives us an early start on our preparation for 2006”, 
stated Head
Coach Lori Sippel.  “The coaching staff is looking forward to working with 
this group of
exception athletes on our journey to a podium finishes in China in 2006 and 
2008.”

This camp is the first step in 2006 towards the World Championships which 
will be held
in Beijing, China from August 20-29.  The World Championships will qualify 
four teams,
plus host China, for the 2008 Olympics Games also to be held Beijing.

Thirty-seven athletes accepted invitations to the Plant City Camp and include:

(Ottawa) L'Équipe nationale féminine de softball du Canada sautera sur le 
terrain, au
Quartier général de la Fédération internationale de softball à Plant City, 
en Floride du
2 au 8 janvier 2006 pour un camp d'évaluation. Ce camp servira à 
sélectionner un noyau
d'athlètes tant pour l'Équipe senior que pour l'Équipe élite pour l'année 
2006.

“La première étape était de se qualifier pour le Championnat du monde ce 
que nous avons
réussi à faire au début du mois. Organiser un camp en janvier nous permet 
de commencer
tôt notre préparation pour 2006", a déclaré l'entraîneure-chef Lori 
Sippel.  “Le
personnel d'entraîneurs a hâte de travailler avec ce groupe d'athlètes 
exceptionnelles
dans notre marche vers un podium en Chine en 2006 et en 2008.”

Ce camp constitue la première étape de l'année 2006 en vue du Championnat 
du monde qui
aura lieu à Pékin, en Chine, du 20 au 29 août. Le Championnat du monde 
permettra à
quatre équipes de se qualifier en plus des hôtes de la Chine, en vue des 
Jeux olympiques
de 2008 qui auront aussi lieu à Pékin.
