Title race going down to the wire at men's NPC
Monday January 9th 2006

The title race for the New Zealand Community Trust Men's National 
Provincial Cup will come down to three games tomorrow at Colquhoun Park, 
Palmerston North.

The top four sides will face off in semi finals tomorrow morning at 10am 
with the winners going through to the final at 2pm.

In the first semi final top seed Hutt Valley will play Hutt Valley 
Development while in the other semi Canterbury will meet Wellington.

The semi final seedings were found after a full round of games today which 
saw the top four teams playing off against each other.

Canterbury suffered their first defeat of the tournament today when they 
were beaten by Hutt Valley 2-1. Following that loss Canterbury then bounced 
back with two more wins to secure the number two seeding for the semi 
finals tomorrow.

The surprise package of the tournament Hutt Valley Development also 
suffered their first loss today, they went down against Canterbury 6-1 and 
Wellington 9-3. While they suffered two losses Hutt Valley Development did 
have one win in a grudge match against Hutt Valley with the development 
team coming out on top 2-1.

Today's results however will count for little when play gets underway 
tomorrow with all of the top four sides just two wins away from the title.

Canterbury 6 Hutt Valley Development 1, Hawkes Bay 7 Otago 2, Hutt Valley 2 
Canterbury 1, Nelson 7 Manawatu 0, Otago 4 Rotorua 0, Hawkes Bay 7 Auckland 
0, Wellington 9 Hutt Valley Development 3.
