Australia to meet world number one in Gold medal game

Australia has just beaten Tanifa Samoa 3-1 in the preliminary final of the
Commonwealth Men's Fastpitch Championship at Altona in Victoria.

Top order bat, Michael Tanner (ACT) ran an inside the park home run in
bottom of the third to put Australia on the board.

Tanner continued his good form with the bat in the bottom of the sixth with
a safe hit to centre field for a single. Team mate David Newsome (NSW) put
down the perfect sacrfice bunt to move Tanner to second. Jeff Goolagong
followed with a tripled to the right field fence to score Tanner. Kris
Kiefel (Vic) then hit a long sacrifice fly to right field to score
Goolagong for the third run.

Samoa came out strong in the seventh scoring a run, but then were unable to
capatilise leaving runners on base for Australia to take the game.

Adam Humble (WA) dominated the Samoa bats from the pitching mound with just
two hits and six strike outs from 23 batters faced.

Australia, ranked third, will take on the New Zealand Black Sox, current
world number one in the gold medal game at 3.30pm (AEDT).
