Finalists found as men's national club champs
Saturday March 25th 2006

Parklands Christchurch United and Hutt City United will meet
in the finalof the New Zealand Community Trust Menýs National
Club Championships atAkina Park, Hastings tomorrow afternoon
on the back of a run of victoriesin the top eight playoffs today.

PCU have gone through their section of top eight playoff games
unbeatenrecording a tight 1-0 win over Metro, defeating Rotorua
Magic 4-3 andbeating Northcote 8-3 on Friday night.

PCU have suffered just one loss in the tournament and that came
on theopening day of round robin play when they were beaten by
the defendingchampions Mt Albert Ramblers.

After earlier wins over Metro and Northcote PCU cemented their
final spotwith a 4-3 win over the surprise package of the tournament
Rotorua Magic.PCU had to rely on a late fight back to win the
game with the winning runcoming in the bottom of the seventh
inning when Brad Annanadale scamperedhome on a hit by Paul Delatour.

HCU have been convincing in their lead up to the final and are
yet totaste defeat in the tournament. In the top eight playoffs
HCU beatMiramar 3-1, Richmond Keas 5-1 and then clinched the
final spot with atight 1-0 win over Ramblers.

The key win today for HCU came against the defending champions
Ramblersas they came out on top by just 1-0. The only run of
the game camein the third inning when Chris Telfer picked up
a safe hit and scored ona single by Brad Baker.

In a tight game it was one dominated by the pitchers as the traditionallypowerful
batting line ups from both sides struggled to get on top. Forthe
victorious HCU side Jeremy Manly was on the mound, he faced 26batters
giving up five hits while taking 13 strikeouts. For RamblersThomas
Cameron did the pitching he faced 25 batters giving up five hitsand
taking four strikeouts.

PCU and HCU will meet in the final at 3pm tomorrow afternoon.
Looking atthe two sides on paper they are hard to separate with
both havinginternational class pitcher to call on in the form
of Jeremy Manly forHCU and Michael Gaiger for PCU. Both teams
also have plenty of hittingdepth so the final should be a very
tight affair.
