(Set July 1 9, 2006)
(Surrey, B.C. Canada) Teams from all over the world are getting
set to show the world that they can compete for a Canada Cup.
The excitement of top-level world competition in the Womens
event gets underway Saturday, July 1, 2006 at SoftballCity(2201
148thSt.).
Its a grand slam tournament lineup with four tournaments part
of the Canada Cup competitive schedule for the first time! Up
to 72 teams from many parts of the world will be coming to B.C.
to take part in this softball extravaganza.
This years tournament includes the 13th Canada Cup International
Womens Fastpitch Tournament featuring many international teams
preparing for the 2006 Womens World Championships in Beijing,
China, the 5th Canada Cup International Fastpitch Futures Tournament
World Junior Womens, the 2nd Canada Cup 16 and Under Fastpitch
Showcase Tournament and returning for the 9th time, the Canada
Cup Special Olympics Friendship Division Tournament, July 6 -
9.
This years Canada Cup International Womens Fastpitch Tournament
running July 1 - 9 at SoftballCityin Surreywill feature up to
16 teams vying for supremacy including teams from Australia,
Canada, China, Chinese Taipei, Japan, Netherlands, Puerto Rico,
Venezuelaand the USA.
Up to 36 teams are expected to compete in the Futures Tournament,
with play slated July 3 - 9 at SoftballCity and CloverdaleAthleticPark(64thAve
and 168thSt.), both in Surrey.
The 2006 Canada Cup 16 & Under Fastpitch Showcase Tournament
is scheduled July 3 9 at SoftballCity and CloverdaleAthleticPark.
Up to 24 teams will be accepted to compete in this event which
introduced for the first time last year a third level of the
sport.
The Canada Cup Special Olympics Friendship Division Tournament
takes place July 6 9.
The Canada Cup was started by chair Glen Todd in 1993 as an international
womens fastpitch developmental tournament to help the Canadian
National team prepare for top-level international competition.
Teams now regard the Canada Cup as one of the premier competitive
tournaments in the world.
