Hometown girl elevates Canada to second win in Ontario Tour

(Guelph, ON) - The Canadian National Team defeated the Canadian
Elite Team by a score of six to one in game two of the Ontario
Tour in Guelph, Ontario.

The teams elected to play in a "free substitution" style game
in an effort to showcase more of the local talent to the fans.

Danielle Lawrie (Langley, BC) received the start in the circle
striking out eight and allowing only two hits in four innings
pitched. The Canadian National Team opened the scoring with
Erin Cumpstone (Saskatoon, SK) sacrificing to score Angela Lichty
(Guelph, ON).

Katie Rosentreter (Winnipeg, MB) held the Canadian National Team
to only one run and three hits in four innings pitched. The
Canadian Elite Team scored their sole run in the top of the six
on a single from Shannon Rossiter (Surrey, BC) scoring Erin Gee
(Burnaby, BC).

It wasn't until the bottom of the sixth that the Canadian National
Team increased their lead as hometown girl Angela Lichty singled
with the bases loaded to score Erin McLean (Whitby, ON) and Noemie
Marin (Acton Vale, QC) giving Canada a three to nothing lead.
"It was a tight ball game" sated Lichty. "I was just trying
to make contact with the ball; make things happen; get the momentum
and the runs going our way. It was great to be able to perform
back home here in Guleph. It was special for me have my family
and friends here to watch me play, some of which I do not get
to see very often"

Melanie Mathews (Surrey, BC) continued the offense for the Canadian
National Team slugging a three run in-the-park homerun giving
Canada a six to one win. "Hitting becomes contagious" said Matthews.
"The team came together and started to feed of each other and
then we started to make things happen."

Robin Mackin (Newmarket, ON) earned the save and allowed only
two hits in three innings pitched.

The Ontario Tour will continue against the New England Riptide
of the National Professional Fastpitch League with games in Kitchener
(June 22nd, 24th and 25th) and Brampton (June 23rd). For tickets
