USA SoftballSweeps Doubleheader 4-1, 10-3

 

Tucson, Ariz. – After a 17-1 victory yesterday, the 2006 USAWomen’s
Softball National team came back for a double header sweep, 4-1,10-3,
of the NPF Arizona Heat in Tucson Ariz. The team tallied threehomeruns
during the doubleheader with four different pitchers seeing action.

 

Game 1 – USA4  Tucson Heat,1

 

It was all Crystl Bustos (Canyon Country, Calif.and Natasha Watley
(Irvine, Calif.as they split the run production for Team USA
in game one. Bustos got itstarted with a double that scored 
Watley who hit a single down the left fieldline to get on base.
Bustos, a perfect 3-3 with two RBI, put the team up on theboard
again in the fourth with a solo homerun. With bases loaded, Watleyfollowed
up with a long single that scored two runs with her advancing
tosecond on the throw. 

 

Monica Abbott (Salinas, Calif.) started for the red, white and
blue and pitchedsix innings before Cat Osterman (Houston Texas)
came in to close theseventh inning. Abbott allowed one hit, gave
up no runs and struck out seven insix innings pitched. Osterman
gave up two hits in the seventh, including atriple off the bat
of Heather Scaglione that scored the solo run of the gamefor
the Heat.

 

Game 2 – USA10 Tucson Heat,3

 

Team USAput up four runs off two hits in the second inning with
everyone in the battingorder seeing action including a long single
by Jessica Mendoza (Camarillo, Calif.that scored two runs. The
Heat responded in the fourth when Catalina Morrislaunched a three-RBI
homerun scoring Toni Mascarenas who led off with a double andNichole
Thompson with a walk.

 

Homeruns from both Andrea Duran (SelmaCalif.) and Watley in the
fifth and seventh,respectively, gave the U.S.four more runs.
Watley was 2-5 in game two with five RBI including a double anda
homerun. 

 

Jamie Southern (Clovis, Calif.) earned thewin for the team throwing
four innings with both Osterman and Amanda Freed (Cypress, Calif.also
seeing action on the mound.
