Aussie top order bats prove too strong as Ward hits home run
in equaller

The Australian Open Women’s softball team, Aussie Spirit, have
once again proved strong in attack, defeating Japan Denso Club
9-0 in today’s play of the 2006 Canada Cup in Vancouver.

The Aussie Spirit made an impact early in the game with top order
bats Simmone Morrow, Sandra Allen and Stacey Porter scoring in
the top of the inning.

In her record equaller, co-captain Natalie Ward hit a two-run
home run, bringing home Porter for her second, in the top of
the fourth. With other scores from Morrow and Allen, Australia
won with the run-ahead rule.

With co-captain and three-time Olympian Tanya Harding on the
mound, Japan Denso Club were unable to score with seven strike
outs.

Australia has won five from five.

Australia’s Natalie Ward, from New South Wales, will tomorrow
become Australia’s most capped player when they take on American
Pastime at 11.30am (AEST) in Day 5 of the Canada Cup in Vancouver.
