Kiwis double up with two victories over Australia
Friday July 7th 2006

The New Zealand Junior Men’s Development team have made a smashing
startto the international series against Australia in Sydney
today winning theopening two games by impressive margins.

New Zealand began the day with a 12-5 win and then backed it
up with 8-2victory to take a 2-0 lead in the seven game series.

Game one was a come from behind win for the New Zealand team
as they tookcontrol of the fixture in the third inning scoring
eight runs and fromthere continued to pile on the runs.

In game two again the New Zealand team were not the first to
score butthat mattered little as they accumulated runs well and
gave back withinterest anything the Australians threw at them.

New Zealand team manger Mark Carter says the two victories were
a realteam effort with everybody contributing.

“There was a lot of impressive hitting from everybody but there
wasn’t alot of long ball hitting. With all the hits it was just
a case of movingthe ball,” said Carter.

“On the mound James Pointon (Wellington) pitched the first game
and hedid a good job of keeping us in the game when they jumped
out to an earlylead. Tamihana Hokianga (Hawkes Bay) was on the
mound for game two and hedid well also,” said Carter.

The wins today were a special milestone for Carter who has been
managingNew Zealand teams for the last nine years. Today was
the first time hehas been manager of a New Zealand team to beat
an Australian side.

“It was a very very good performance from start to finish today,
thespirit in the team is good and the team are gelling well.”

The Kiwi team will be looking to wrap up the series tomorrow
when theTrans Tasman match ups continue with another three games
at 2.30pm (NZtime), 5.50pm (NZ time) and 8pm (NZ time).
