Canada Held Scoreless in Final Game Against the Thunder

 

(LEAGUE CITY, Texas) - Two-time Olympic Gold Medalist Christa
Williams picked up her tenth win of the season on Saturday night,
helping the Texas Thunder to a 2-0 win over Team Canada at Big
League Dreams in League City.

 

Texas took to the early lead in the bottom half of the second
inning on a wild throw to third by catcher Tamra Howren (Surrey,
BC) allowing Lindsey Gardner to score.  Texas added to their
lead in the fifth with a squeeze play giving the Thunder their
second run of the game.

 

Canada's best chance offensively came in the early stages of
the fifth inning as Melanie Matthews (Surrey, BC) reached first
on a bunt followed by a Sheena Lawrick (Calgary, AB) walk.  Angela
Lichty advanced the runners and loaded the bases on a solid single
to third.  Canada's threat fell short as Williams would shut
down the Canada offense and protect her shut out striking out
Jennifer Salling (Port Coquitlam, BC) and forcing Alison Bradley
(Pinkerton, ON) to ground out ending the inning.

 

Danielle Lawrie (Langley, BC) was credited with the loss giving
up 2 runs on 3 hits before being relieved by Kaila Holtz (North
Vancouver, BC) in the fifth inning.

 

The loss closes out the series against Texas with Canada holding
a record of 3 wins and 1 loss.  Canada will look to conclude
their pre World Championship training with a 4 game series against
the Connecticut Brakettes on the 15th, 16th, 17thand 18th of
