Hutt Valley team crowned national under 19 girl’s champions
Friday January 5th 2007

An all out hitting assault has seen Hutt Valley claim the New
ZealandCommunity Trust Under 19 Girl’s national softball title
at Fraser Park,Lower Hutt today.

In what turned out to be something of a local derby Hutt Valley
won thetitle with the 8-2 victory over Wellington in the final.


Hutt Valley was always in control of the final after opening
up a two runlead early in the game. The decisive blow came from
the bat of NgahuiaKapene who smashed a home run with one runner
on base to put the hometeam ahead by four runs.

Wellington pulled two runs back but then Hutt Valley went even
furtherahead with a further four runs to close out the game and
secure animpressive victory. 

Hutt Valley had been the form team in the tournament suffering
just oneloss during round robin play. Today on finals day they
won their openingplayoff match against Wellington this morning
to secure direct entry intothe final while the team from the
capital had to play and extra gamedefeating Auckland to book
their place in the final.

Hutt Valley 7 Wellington 4, Auckland 7 Hawkes Bay 1, North Harbour
4Counties Manukau 3, Wellington 6 Auckland 5, Canterbury 12 Western
Bay ofPlenty 0.
Final – Hutt Valley 8 Wellington 2.

1 Hutt Valley, 2 Wellington, 3 Auckland, 4 Hawkes Bay, 5 Canterbury,
6Western Bay of Plenty, 7 North Harbour, 8 Counties Manukau.
