Log Cabin Wins Indoor Tourney in Davenport

 

Log Cabin fastpitch of Villa Grovewon this weekend's Davenportindoor
tournament in come from behind fashion. The team fell twice on
Friday toDolan & Murphy by a score of 5-2 and then again to Frany's
by a score of4-2. 

On Saturday, the teams were seeded for a singleelimination tournament.
Log Cabin started the afternoon as the #3 seed and tookon the
Sweetwater Aces, who finished as the second seed in Pool A. The
Acesscored four in the bottom of the first but the bats came
alive for Log Cabin,scoring fourteen runs in the last four innings
to win, 17-4. 

That win would create a rematch with the Shamrocks ofDolan &
Murphy. This was one of the many very close games played thisweekend.
Both teams scored once in the third inning and Log Cabin came
back totie it in the top of the fifth inning on an RBI single
from Shane Ring, scoringJohn Schweighart. That duo would hook
up again, with Schweighart scoring thewinning run in the top
of the seventh on another RBI single by Ring. Greg Punkewent
the distance for Log Cabin, allowing only five hits and two earned
runs toa very good D & M lineup. 

In the championship, Log Cabin would face Franny's of Springfield
who played agreat game to defeat the Quad City Sox, 2-0, to get
there. The score was tied1-1 after one inning of play. Log Cabin
would score once in the top of thesecond and twice in the third
inning to take a 4-1 lead. Franny's scored oncein the bottom
of the third and LC was able to counter that with one of their
ownin the top of the fourth. Franny's scored twice in the bottom
of the fourth,thanks to a two run home run from Dave Maskey.
Both teams would make pitchingchanges in the fifth, Franny's
turning to Mike Reis and LC turning to GregPunke. Both guys held
the hitters in check, with Reis allowing two hits and noruns
and Punke not giving up any hits and the only baserunner was
a walk in histhree innings of work. 

For the tourney, Greg Punke pitched 19 innings, giving up7 earned
runs. He went 1-1 with a save. Andy Jones went 2-1, on 10 earned
runsin 16 innings. John Schweighart led the hitting attack, going
9-15, with 8 runsscored and 4 doubles. Shane Ring was 9-17 with
a homer and 9 RBI's. Greg Punkealso helped his cause going 7-17
with 5 RBI's. 

Log Cabin would like to thank Ron Foster for a very funweekend.
We all had a great time and hope to do it again next spring.
