May 19-20
Palm Springs, CA

The Circle Tap men's fastpitch team kicked off the 2007 campaign
in Palm
Springs, CA over the weekend going 4-2(4-2 overall) good enough
for a 2nd
place finish. You probably don't need a weather report but it
was HOT.
Upper 90's into the low 100's for all the games. Overall a very
successful tournament that allowed us to get our new guys some
at bats and
they showed what they are capable of. We did not have any pickup
players
this weekend but were missing Paul Algar, Frankie Perez, Kevin
Reichardt,
Todd Malnory, and Jamie Knudson, we did lose Chris DeLarwelle
and Tim
Jorgensen in the 6th inning of the semi-final due to early flights.
Let's get to the action:

Game 1
10AM Saturday

#8 Circle Tap 6 Young Bucks(Santa Barbara, CA) 0
YB 0 2 0
CT 6 5 0
CT kicked off the season with the 23U ASA champs in the Young
Bucks. CT
got things rolling in the bottom half of the 2nd inning when
Tim Jorgensen
drew a walk followed by a Chad Ferguson walk and then Kyle VanAbel
delivered a two RBI triple. Bryan Hansen walked and then Steve
Schucker
grounded into a fielder's choice allowing VanAbel to score for
a 3-0 lead.
In the bottom of the fourth VanAbel drew a one out walk, Hansen
picked up
a base hit moving VanAbel to 3rd and then Steve Schucker flew
to center
picking up a sac fly RBI. In the 5th Matt Bramwell smashed a
one out
triple and would later score on a passed ball for a 5-0 advantage.
In the
6th, Chad Ferguson led off with a base hit, stole 2nd and would
later
score on a passed ball. Bramwell got the opening day start and
worked a
masterful game allowing just two hits and striking out 19 walking
none.

This was a very frustrating game. Even though we had only 4 hits
we left
9 men on base due to a few walks and a couple errors. Portland
pitcher
Bricklin Andersen got some big outs when he needed them leaving
a pair on

a 3-0
lead in the 2nd inning as Rob Gehrke and Rod Rainey drew one
out walks,
Randy Potskin reached on an error scoring a run and then with
two out Ryan
Daley knocked in a pair. Portland added another in the 5th Daley
scored
after reaching on a fielder's choice on a Jesse Duncan base hit.
CT would
get on the board in the bottom half of the 6th when Tom Crouch
led off
with a base hit, Tim Jorgensen followed with a base hit, after
a strike
out Kyle VanAbel knocked in Crouch but a ground out and strike
out
stranded the other two runners.

There were 14 teams in the tournament broken down to two pools
of 7. Each
of the pools sent the top 4 teams to a single elimination bracket.
With a
2-1 record and allowing 6 runs we earned the #4 seed in our bracket
so we
face the top seed of the other bracket.

Gardner
then singled him in. Starting pitcher Collin McKenzie then moved
to left
field and Matt Bramwell came on to pitch. After a sac by Trevor
Johnstone,
Rob Giesbrecht then knocked in Gardner making it 4-3. The CT
offense got
back together and got the two runs back in the bottom of the
