Team Canada slams past the Japan Denso team in Canada Cup action
on Monday July 2nd 11-4. 

After spoiling a couple of chances to put runs up on the board
in the top of the 1st inning, Canada gave up three in the bottom
half of the inning. From that point on though, the Canadians
would not look back scoring a total of 11 runs on 15 hits. Denso
put three runs on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first inning,
but as winning pitcher Katie Rosentreter settled into the game
the Denso team could only push across one more run in the bottom
of the fifth inning to extend the game into the sixth. In the
top of the third inning with bases loaded, Ashley Van Boxmeer
hit a booming pinch hit grand slam home run over the centerfield
fence. Another balanced offensive game by the red and white with
Tamra Howren, Erin Cumpstone, Sheena Lawrick and Melanie Matthews
each contributing multiple hits in the game.

“It was great to have the come from behind win”, states head
coach Lori Sippel. “That situation offers the team the opportunity
to really see what is inside. Good at bats from the bench sparked
us and Katie made good on her second opportunity.”

Team Canada will turn its attention to Georgia Wilson Select
their opponent in Canada Cup action on Tuesday night – Game time
6:30 pm at Softball City in Surrey/White Rock.
