Australia advances to finals



The Australian Open Women’s team, Aussie Spirit, arethrough to
the first round of the finals at the 2007 Canada Cup. 

After a turbulent week, Aussie Spirit capped off the end of the
round robingames with a 15-0 win over Puerto Rico to secure themselves
a third place spot,behind USA and Japan Elite, on the White Pool
ladder. 

Aussie Spirit batters came out firing from the start of the game
scoring amassive seven runs in the first innings of play. They
followed it up in the topof the second innings, scoring six runs
with Puerto Rico having no answers. 

In the top of the first innings, top order batter, Kerry Wyborn
was walked andmoved around the bases to score Australia’s first
run and later returningto hit a double to score Jodie Bowering,
Kate Quigley and Belinda Wright. 



Jodie Bowering was outstanding with her bat, contributingsix
runs to Australia’s score. She had three turns at bat, scoring
threeruns and batting three runners home. 

It took Aussie Spirit just three innings to secure the win to
take their win-lossratio for the tournament so far to 4-2. 

Felicity Witt pitched the win for Australia in just 2.6 innings,
giving upthree hits with one strike-out. 

Australia now meets Japan, who finished second on the Red Pool
ladder behindCanada, tomorrow at 6.00am (AEST).
