LATE HEROICS GIVE ELMIRA WIN OVER EAST HANTS
 
SUMMERSIDE (Pat Healey) - For the second straight game, the Elmira
Advance Millwright (Ont. 2) used late inning heroics to come
away with a win, this time 5-4 over Nova Scotia reps East Hants
Henchmen as day 2 got started at the 2007 Causeway Bay Softball
Canada Junior Men’s fast pitch championships in Summerside.
Sunday, Elmira scored the winning run in the seventh in a 3-2
win over Simcoe Wildcats.
Monday, the Ontario No Two entry used just six hits of Nova Scotia
ace Cory Avery to score five runs in the win. East Hants pounded
out 10 hits off Elmira’s Ryan Shannon and Dan Martin.
Jack McLaren (2-3, run scored, two RBI), Ben Wideman (1-4, run
scored, triple), Josh Brohman (1-3, run scored), Ron Dean (1-2,
RBI) and Kris Wright (1-3, two runs scored, walk) were tops.
Steve Grant (1-4) with a two-run triple and Andy Chase (2-4,
two runs scored) with a solo home run gave East Hants a 3-0 lead
after two innings, before Elmira’s bats came alive in the third.
Laurie Isenor (2-3), John Gunn (2-3, run scored, RBI) and Pat
Stewart (2-3) were also tops.
Dan Martin earned the win in relief going six and two third innings
allowing one run on seven hits, walking one and fanning seven.
Ryan Shannon allowed three runs on three hits while striking
out one in one and one third innings work. 
Avery went the distance allowing four runs on 10 hits walking
three and fanning nine in taking the loss.
Elmira sits at 2-0 after the win while East Hants falls to 0-2.
