Canada defeats Bandits 3-1 for thirdstraight win

(Chicago, IL) –The Senior Women’sNational Team notched its third
straight win yesterday afternoon by defeatingthe Chicago Bandits
by a score of 3-1. Melanie Matthews (Surrey, BC) scored tworuns
to improve Canada’s record to 3-0 on the Pro Tour, extending
fromJune 13-29.

If the first inning had been any indication of howthe game was
to unfold, Canada might not have been so fortunate to escape
witha victory. Thankfully, the homerun by the Bandits’ Stacy
May onCanada’s first pitch of the game was the only run the team
would allowits opponent for the remainder of the day.

In an effort to pull ahead, Matthews sent one out ofthe park
in the top of the third, while pitcher Danielle Lawrie (Langley,
BC)frustrated the Bandits by throwing one strikeout after another.

Though the Chicago squad rallied together, managingto earn two
hits and steal a couple of bases, the Senior Women’s NationalTeam
put all doubts to rest in the sixth inning. After drawing a walk
andstealing second base, Matthews was sent home on a drive to
centre field byJennifer Salling (Port Coquitlam, BC). Immediately
after the score advanced to2-1 in Canada’s favour, Sheena Lawrick
(Calgary, BC) recorded an RBI,where Jennifer Yee (North Delta,
BC) earned the third and final run of theafternoon. 

At the end of seven innings, Lawrie was creditedwith an outstanding
ten strikeouts and only two hits to earn the win.

Canada will be seeking its fourth victory tonight,June 16, 2008
at 7:05p.m. CDT, as they take on the Chicago Bandits at JudsonUniversity
Sports Complex (Elgin, IL).

LeCanada bat les Bandits 3-1 pour leur troisième victoire de
suite 

(Chicago,IL) – L’équipe nationale senior féminine s’est méritée
unetroisième victoire de suite hier après-midi en surclassant
les Bandits deChicago par la marque de 3 à 1. Melanie Matthews
(Surrey, C-B) a marqué deuxpoints pour pousser la fiche du Canada
à 3-0 lors de leur tournée professionnelle,qui s’élonge du 13
au 29 juin.

Sila première manche était une indication de comment la partie
allait être jouée,le Canada n’aurait probablement pas été si
chanceux de s’en sortiravec la victoire. Heureusement, le coup
circuit par Stacy May des Bandits sur lepremier lancer de la
partie du Canada était le seul point que le rouge et blanca accordé
à son adversaire pour le reste de la journée.

Dansun effort de briser l’égalité, Matthews a envoyé une balle
hors duterrain en début de troisième manche, alors que la lanceuse
Danielle Lawrie(Langley, C-B) a frustré les Bandits en retirant
frappeuse après frappeuse surdes prises.

Malgréque l’équipe de Chicago s’est rassemblé ensemble, cognant
deuxcoups sûrs et volant quelques buts, l’équipe nationale senior
féminine amis fin aux doutes en sixième manche. Après avoir forcé
un but sur balles etvolé le deuxième coussin, Matthews a croisé
le marbre su un coup solide deJennifer Salling (Port Coquitlam,
C-B)au champ centre. Immédiatement aprèsavoir pris les devants
2-1, Sheena Lawrick (Calgary, AB) a produit un autrepoint, poussant
Jennifer Yee (North Delta, C-B) au marbre pour le troisième etdernier
point de la partie.

Aprèssept manches, Lawrie a été créditée avec dix retraits au
bâton et seulementdeux coups sûrs pour se mériter la victoire.

LeCanada sera à la recherche de sa quatrième victoire ce soir,
le 16 juin 2008 à19:05 heure centrale, alors qu’il affrontera
les Bandits de Chicago unedernière fois au complexe sportif de
l’Université Judson (Elgin, IL).
