ITS ON
TO THE FINALS FOR DOG HOUSE!
It took seven full innings but the North Stars from
Dog House came through in defeating the young guns from Whitefish
11-10. Randy Dennis (3-0) admitted it wasn't his best effort
as he struggled through the match but his teammates never gave
up coming back from an early 7-1 deficit after three innings.Jeff
Spencer led the way for the winners going a perfect 3 for 3 at
the plate while Josh Shawanda hit 3 for 3 in a losing cause for
the Steelers. Al Guenette(0-2) , losing pitcher , hit a solo
home run in the fifth , his first of the season. After winning
the series 3-0 , the North Stars now`await the winner of the
Hounds/Cardinals series for the championship round.
It was the same score in the nightcap as the Garson
Hounds outlasted the Pickerel River Cardinals 11-10 to take a
2-0 lead in the best of 5 "B" semi final series.Mickey Chartrand
was the winner with relief from Gary Lamothe .Pat Brennan from
Pickerel and Todd Parsons from Garson both hit 2 for 3. A scary
incident occured in the middle frame as a ball coming off Cardinal
shortstop Alex Ashawasagai hit pitcher Gary Lamothe from Garson
on the forehead and in the same spot he was injured two years
ago almost to the day in a tournament in Elliot Lake. He was
taken to the hospital and no details yet on how he is doing. Our
prayers and those of all fastball fans from the region are with
him.We wish him a speedy recovery. The Hounds could finish the
series Thursday night in Garson with a victory over the Cardinals.
THE NORTHERNS ARE READY TO GO
Now that the pools have been set and the schedule
handed to the 8 competing teams , we should be off and running
come Friday evening. The opening game should be a dandy with
Cory Stolar from Dog House facing Aaron "Sixer" Owl from Sucker
Creek Raiders. Four or five of the teams seem to have a top notch
starting pitcher and we should be in for a treat in several of
the games.
Yours in fastball ,.
