BobStanton named ISF Director of Umpires; Brian Van Os appointed
as new SoftballCanada NDU

(Ottawa,ON) – Following Bob Stanton’s appointment as the International
Softball Federation’s(ISF) new Director of Umpires, his previous
position as Softball Canada’sNational Director of Umpires (NDU)
was left vacant. As a result, SoftballCanada went through its
own nomination process and has appointed Brian Van Osas the new
Softball Canada NDU.

“Iwould like to take this opportunity to congratulate Brian Van
Os on hisselection as our new NDU.” stated Softball Canada President
Kevin Quinn. “Brianis a very hard worker who has supported the
umpire movement in Canada for many,many years. Brian wears his
heart on his sleeve and has a great passion forumpire development.
His great work ethic will be a real positive in his newrole as
NDU in Canada.”

VanOs began his umpiring career in 1971 and became a registered
Softball Canadaumpire in 1981. He was both a Fast Pitch and Slo
Pitch official throughout hisyears of service. He has also been
involved administratively with SoftballBritish Columbia and Softball
Canada since 1985, serving in numerous differentpositions. He
was involved in umpiring at the international level from 1986
to2001, including the 1988 ISF Senior Men’s World Championships
and the 2001 ISFJunior Men’s World Championships. He served as
Softball BC’s Umpire-in-Chieffrom 1989 to 1997 and later joined
Softball Canada’s Officials DevelopmentCommittee (ODC) in 2002,
notably working on the evolution of the rulebook andoffering
rule interpretations to the umpiring community.

“Itis an honour to fill the position of National Director of
Umpires for SoftballCanada.” said Brian Van Os. “I am following
some great leaders from the pastwho built a strong foundation
for theofficiating program. I look forward to leading our strong
group ofvolunteers on the ODC and in the Provinces and Territories
as wehead into the future. We need to work with our Provincial
and Territorialpartners across the country to continue building
on the strengths of the pastand create new initiatives and opportunities
for our membership into thefuture. The program needs to grow
and standing still is not an option.”

BobStanton, a resident of Fredericton, New Brunswick, became
the ISF’s ActingDirector of Umpires last January following the
passing of Merle Butler, thelong-time head of the world governing
body’s umpiring program. Stanton alsoserved as ISF Deputy Director
of Umpires since December of 2006, served asSoftball Canada’s
National Director of Umpires since 2005 and has been activelyinvolved
as an umpire for over 25 years.

years of servicein Softball Canada both as a member of the ODC
and more recently as NDU” addedKevin Quinn. “Bob is a great negotiator

Bob Stanton est nommé Directeur des Arbitres del’ISF; Brian Van
Os est appointé comme nouveau Directeur National des Arbitresde
Softball Canada

(Ottawa,ON) – Suivant l’appointement de Bob Stanton en tant que
nouveau Directeur desArbitres de la Fédération Internationale
de Softball (ISF), sa positionprécédente comme Directeur National
des Arbitres de Softball Canada a étélibérée. Ainsi, Softball
Canada a effectué son propre processus de nominationset a appointé
Brian Van Os comme nouveau Directeur des Arbitres de SoftballCanada.

« J’aimeraisprendre cette occasion pour féliciter Brian Van Os
pour sa sélection en tantque notre nouveau Directeur National
des Arbitres » a indiqué Kevin Quinn,président de Softball Canada.
« Brian travaille très fort et a supporté lemouvement des arbitres
au Canada pour plusieurs années. Brian a le cœur au bonendroit
et a une excellente passion pour le développement des arbitres.

VanOs a débuté sa carrière d’arbitre en 1971, et a devenu un
arbitre enregistré deSoftball Canada en 1981, servant comme officiel
en Balle Rapide et en BalleLente à travers ses années de service.
Il a aussi été impliqué de façonadministrative avec Softball
Colombie-Britannique et Softball Canada depuis1985, servant à
plusieurs différentes positions. Il était impliqué àl’arbitrage
au niveau international de 1986 à 2001, incluant le Championnat
dumonde senior masculin de l’ISF en 1988 et le Championnat du
monde juniormasculin de l’ISF en 2001. Il a servi comme Arbitre-en-chef
de SoftballColombie-Britannique de 1989 à 1997 et s’est plus
tard joint au Comité deDéveloppement des Officiels (CDO) de Softball
Canada en 2002, s’occupantnotamment de l’évolution du livre de
règlements et offrant des interprétationsde règlements à la communauté
des arbitres.

« C’estun honneur de remplir la position de Directeur National
des Arbitres pourSoftball Canada » a dit Brian Van Os. « Je suis
dans les pas deplusieurs grands leaders du passé qui ont bâtit
une fondation solide pour leprogramme des officiels. J’ai hâte

etterritoriaux à travers le pays afin de continuer à bâtir sur

pour nos membres dansle futur. Le programme a besoin de grandir
et rester sur place n’est pas uneoption. » 

BobStanton, un résident de Fredericton au Nouveau-Brunswick,
est devenu leDirecteur des Arbitres intérimaire de l’ISF en janvier
dernier suivant le décèsde Merle Butler, le leader à long-terme
du programme des arbitres du corpsgouvernant mondial. Stanton
a aussi servi en tant que Directeur des Arbitresdéputé de l’ISF
depuis décembre de 2006, a servi comme Directeur National desArbitres
de Softball Canada depuis 2005 et a été impliqué activement commearbitre
pour plus de 25 ans.

Stanton pour ses plusieursannées de service à Softball Canada
en tant que membre de la CDO et plusrécemment en tant que Directeur
