2010 Open Pee Wee Girls Canadian Championship

(Ottawa, ON) Softball Canada is pleased to announce a pilot project
that will take place in Montreal, QC from August 11-15, 2010.
The 2010 Pee Wee Girls Canadian Fast Pitch Championship will
be open to all levels of play (A, B, C, Tier 1, 2 etc.). This
will mark the first time a Canadian Championship will be open
to all teams from all levels of ability in the same age category.

Interested teams are asked to contact their local Provincial/Territorial
Offices to register for the event. An online 'intent to register'
form is also available on the tournament website, and will be
forwarded to the respective Provincial/Territorial Office once
completed. The cost to register is $400 plus a $1,000 hotel bond,
which will be applied towards the hotel cost.

Ground transportation will only be provided to the teams who
will be flying to Montreal. These teams will be required to stay
at the Wyndham Montreal Airport Dorval, which will be the only
hotel from where ground transportation will be provided. Teams
who are driving to the tournament will choose from three tournament
hotels: the Quality Suites, the Holiday Inn and/or the Comfort
Inn. Should a team decide not to stay in any of the above hotels,
they will forfeit their $1,000 hotel bond to the host committee.

In terms of prizing, a trophy or a plaque will be given to the
gold-medal winning team in each division, as well as medals to
the first, second and third place teams in each division. Each
player will also receive a participation gift to be determined
by the host.

As for the competition format, any team can declare whether it
would like to compete in the highest division, the 'Cup Division'.
This division will follow traditional Canadian Championship format
and guidelines for the playoff round.

If a team does not wish to play in the top division, they will
play in a seeding round. They will be seeded based on feedback
provided by their Provincial/Territorial Softball Association
and placed in a pool to determine the division they will ultimately
compete in. Wherever possible, teams from the same Province or
Territory will be placed in different pools. Once the seeding
round is completed, teams will be placed in divisions based on
their seeding round record. Once the divisions have been determined,
the records of all teams are erased and an elimination tournament
is played to determine the division winner. Each team will play
a minimum of six games including playoffs.

The tournament rules will follow the 2009-2010 Softball Canada
Rulebook, with the exception of a few modifications (listed in
the link below).

The official tournament website can be found at www.quebecnational.com.
