Junior Women' National Team - Exhibition #2

(Bogota, Colombia) The Canadian Junior Women's National Team
played their second exhibition game before the start of the III
Pan American Championship in Bogota, Colombia yesterday and was
defeated by the pre-tournament favourites from the United States
by a score of 8-2.

Canada had their moments in the game, but the USA hit two homeruns
and banged out 12 hits off three Team Canada pitchers to pick
up the win.

USA scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the second,
but Canada responded in the top of the third when Kristy Noble
(Uxbridge, ON) singled to centre field and moved to second on
an errant throw from the outfield. Natalie Wideman (Mississauga,
ON) laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Noble to third, and she
scored on a passed ball on a walk to Jennifer Gilbert (Mckinney,
Texas).

In the USA half of the third, a Canadian error on a leadoff ground
ball set up a three-run inning for the Americans as they doubled
and hit their first home run of the game. USA went up 5-1 with
another homer in the fourth. Canada then loaded the bases in
the fifith when Wideman singled up the middle, Tessa Loewen (Abbotsford,
BC) reached on an error and Victoria Hayward (Mountain View,
California) walked. A groundout to second ended the threat.

Canada got one back when Katelyn Bedwell (Surrey, BC) hit a homerun
well over the left field fence to cut the lead to three in the
top of the sixth. The USA added three more in the bottom of the
sixth as they had five hits in the inning to complete the scoring.

Canada managed three hits in the game, the Bedwell homerun and
singles to Noble and Wideman.

Natalie Becker (Waterloo, ON) took the loss in the pitcher's
circle as Shanna Wilson (Peterborough, ON) and Jacqueline Omichinski
(Abbotsford, BC) combined to give up 12 hits but struck out ten
USA hitters.

Canada plays their final tune-up game today when they face Brazil
at noon (local time).
