Junior Women's National Team - Exhibition #3

(Bogota, Colombia) The Canadian Junior Women's National Team
completed their exhibition series before the start of the III
Pan American Championship in Bogota with a 17-0 win over Brazil.
Canada opened with three runs in the first and scored six in
the fourth and seven in the fifth. 

The Canadian pitching duo of starter Karissa Hovinga (La Vista,
Nebraska) and Jocelyn Cater (Maple Ridge, BC)) combined on a
one-hitter with seven strikeouts in the five inning game ended
by the run-ahead rule. 

Canada banged out 13 hits including four extra base hits. Jennifer
Gilbert (Mckinney, Texas) and Jacqueline Omichinski (Abbotsford,
BC) each contributed three hits with Gilbert driving two triples
to the left field fence and Omichinski hitting a homerun to centerfield.
Victoria Hayward (Mountain View, California) had two hits with
Brigitte Aizprua (Terrebonne, QC) and Kristy Noble (Uxbridge,
ON) each chipping in with a double. Katelyn Bedwell (Surrey,
BC), Natasha Szlapetis (Brampton, ON) and Corinne Brookhuis (Toronto,
ON) each added singles. 

Gilbert led the RBI parade with five while Omichinski had three
RBI's, and Bedwell and Aizprua added two each 

Canada will open the tournament Saturday against Brazil at 3:30pm
(local time).
