Sunday

Game One: Durham defeated Monroe 5-1
Game Two: Monroe defeated Durham 3-1

ROCHESTER, NY – The Durham College women’s fastball team opened
their 2010 season in Rochester on Saturday with the first two
games of a weekend series against the Monroe Tribunes. The games
were very entertaining as both teams managed to pick up a win.
The series will resume tomorrow at 10 a.m. with another doubleheader.

GAME ONE RECAP - Durham defeated Monroe 5-1

Durham bats were hot in game one as the Lords scored a pair of
runs in the 2nd and 3rd innings, while getting a single run in
the sixth. 2009 OCAA batting champion Samantha Roelofsen picked
up where she left off last season recoding a triple and a single
while Janna Hagan had two singles of her own.

Whitby native Kayla MacLean picked up the win for Durham, pitching
five innings and allowing four hits and one run. Freshman Kristine
Miles threw two innings of shutout ball, giving up only two Tribune
hits. Jodi Lang did an excellent job filling in at the catcher
position for Shannon Ferguson, who was unable to make the road-trip.

GAME TWO RECAP - Monroe defeated Durham 3-1

Monroe bounced back in the early stages of game two, scoring
two runs in the first inning off of Miles who continued to pitch
after her appearance in game one. Durham fought back with a run
of their own in the fifth inning, but Monroe managed to score
another run in the sixth and hold on for the 3-1 win.

"We were just not as sharp and selective at the plate in game
two leaving seven runners on base,” said Durham head coach Jim
Nemish. “However, Kristine and Kayla kept Monroe from having
that big inning with solid pitching and some excellent defence.”

Miles would pick up the loss allowing two runs in four innings.
MacLean also pitched three innings, allowing one hit and a run.

ACTION RESUMES TOMORROW

The Lords and Tribunes will return to the diamond on Sunday for
another doubleheader to complete the four game series.

In 2008, Monroe won the opening weekend series 3-1 while the
Lords returned the favour in 2009.

Durham’s 2010 home opener will take place on Thursday, September
16 against Seneca College. First pitch for doubleheader action
on campus is at 6 p.m.
