Lords remain perfect with a Seneca sweep

OSHAWA, Ont. – The Durham College women’s fastball team improved
to 7-0 in conference play as they picked up a two-game sweep
over the Seneca Sting on Sunday. The Lords earned the pair of
wins by scores of 5-2 and 11-1.

Game one featured another stellar pitching performance by Kayla
MacLean ( Whitby, Ont.), who improved to 2-0 on the year with
the win. MacLean threw the complete game, allowing two runs on
five hits, while recording eight strikeouts. The starting pitcher
also went 3-for-3 at the plate.

Lords catcher Shannon Ferguson (Brockville, Ont.) had another
great day, going 3-for-4 with an RBI. Erin Dewey (Port Hope,
Ont.) went 2-for-2 with two runs and RBI. Dewey and Ferguson
are one-two in OCAA hitting with .636 and .579 batting averages
respectively.

The Lords carried their momentum from their win into game two
as they scored eight runs in the first two innings. In the bottom
of the first inning, Erica and Erin Dewey hit back-to-back hits
off the fence at Durham Field. The Lords added two runs in the
third and another in the fourth, which put an end to the game.

Meagan Bender (Centreville, Ont.), Samantha Roelofsen (Alma,
Ont.), Amanda Gallen (Whitby, Ont.) and Erica Dewey all had multiple
hits in the game.

Gallen picked up the win for Durham, allowing three hits over
three innings.. The lone Seneca run came in the first inning
when Shantelle Wilson hit an inside the park home run. Nicole
McCoy (Whitby, Ont.) pitched a one inning shutout in relief.

The Lords will have a busy week ahead of them as they travel
to Conestoga on Tuesday and then return home for a doubleheader
against the Condors on Thursday. The team will turn around and
head to Saskatoon for the Canadian Collegiate Fastball National
Championship.
