The two pitchers face each other with Troy Nootchtai on the mound and rookie Brad Matheson in the batter’s box 

THE RICK McDONALD MEMORIAL FASTBALL LEAGUE

                                                                       THE YOUNG UPSTART UNDERDOG FALCONS UPSET THE VETERAN NORTH STARS

                                     All is well in the land of the Falcons tonight . The young bucks down 1-0 in their best of 5 semi final started a bit  nervous in the first frame but soon woke up in the second in scoring 5 big runs to lead 6-2 . From then on strong steady pitching from sophomore Troy Nootchtai combined with timely hitting and good defense helped the Whitefish Falcons score five more runs on their way to a convincing 11-5 victory and tie their semi final at a game a piece . The usually steady North Stars made 5 costly fielding errors and their hitting wasn’t there when needed . As mentioned , Troy Nootchtai (1-1) went the distance for the Falcons giving up but 5 hits , struck out 5 and issued but just 1 base on balls . He was steady and never got into any real trouble . For his part this year’s rookie of the year Brad Matheson (0-1) of the North Stars went the distance giving up just 6 hits , fanning 6 batters while issuing 4 base on balls .Brad only had two difficult innings giving up 8 runs in the combined 2nd and 3rd innings . Dustin Soucy led the Falcon charge going 1 for 2 a three run blast to left field with teammates Brandon Biederman 2 for 4 (double) and Sid Nebenionquit 1 for 4 ( 2 run homer) also hitting well . Chad St Cyr hit 1 for 2 a solo roundtriper in a losing cause for the North Stars .This series tied at one game a piece resumes Monday night August 15th in Azilda at the Rick McDonald Memorial Park in a 7 PM start and that will be followed in the nightcap at 9 PM by a match between the Swick Hounds of Garson and the Pickerel River First Nation Cardinals –this is the second game in this series also a best of five with the Cardinals leading 1-0 .
