VIII Men's Pan American Championship - Game 3
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
September 17, 2012

Canada Improves to 3-0 with win over the Bahamas at Pan American Championship

(Medellin, Colombia) The Canadian Men's National Team improved its record to 3-0 with a 5-0 win over the Bahamas this morning. Jason Hill (St. John's, NL) got the ball for Canada and pitched the first four innings, allowing one hit and striking out 11 batters. Brady Woods (Stonewall, MB) pitched the final three innings and did not allow a hit while striking out six. The Bahamas only managed to get two base runners the entire game with a hit in the second inning and a hit by pitch in the sixth.

Canada scored in the bottom of the second when Mark Johnson (Glencoe, ON) walked, was sacrificed to second on a bunt by Blair Ezekiel (Harbour Main, NL) and scored when a sharp ground ball off the bat of Ryan Boland (St. John's, NL) was misplayed by the shortstop. Canada added three more runs in the third when Mathieu Roy (St-Gervais, QC) led off with a walk, was moved to second on a bunt by Bryan Abrey (Richmond, BC) and came home on a triple by Stephen Mullaley (Freshwater, NL). Jeff Ellsworth (St. Lawrence, PEI) and Mark Johnson then hit back-to-back RBI doubles to put Canada up 4-0 after three innings of play. Ellsworth later added a solo homerun over the center field fence to add to the lead.

Ellsworth led Canada at the plate with a homerun, a double and two runs batted in, while Mullaley had an RBI triple. Johnson added a double, a walk and an RBI in the shutout win. In the pitcher's circle, Hill and Woods combined for a one-hitter striking out 17.

Canada now moves to the main softball complex and will face the home team of Colombia at 7:00pm CDT on local television.
