Cobourg Force knocks off Ottawa Team Easton in Grafton final

Not a lot of news out of Grafton this weekend other than Friday night scores, but we did get an anonymous text saying that Dave Tubman hit a 3-run walkoff HR in the 7th to beat the NY Bombers and boost Ottawa Team Easton Thunder into the final. Brad Porter picked up the win in relief of Corey Costello.

UPDATE: 11:00 PM Additional detail from Adam Brown, author of the Eastern Ontario Fastball Blog and the Fitzroy Harbour West Carlton Electric squad:

Semis:
Easton 3 NY Bombers 2
Cobourg 2 Waterdown 1

Final:
Cobourg 2 Easton 1
WP: Kyle Linton 8 Ks, Save: Steve Ketchell 3Ks
LP: Brad Porter 10Ks

– Waterdown looked good. I didn’t see Wells pitch but Tim Neil looked strong. Their bats are really good, tough to pitch to those guys. They lost a tight one to Cobourg in the semis with Wellsy on the slab.

– CPI lost the head to head battle with Easton for the division. Both teams were 2-0 going into their match up on Saturday night. It was a beauty game 8;30 pm on the main diamond, decent crowd on hand. Corey Costello was firing bullets, went the whole way, with a two or three hitter. Jeff Murphy pitched well for CPI in what would have been a bit of “grudge match” for him. Winship came into finish the last inning or two. Ottawa’s #8 hitter Cory Morrison hits two solo shots for the Easton 2-0 win. CPI was essentially eliminated after that.

– NY Bombers looked very good as well. Ryan Cummings ball had great movement and he threw really well. He made an error on the ground ball in the bottom of the seventh after a double by Dan Jessiman of Easton, then threw one bad pitch to Dave Tubman for the walk off homer, 3-2 semi final win. I think Cummings had maybe a 3 or 4 hitter in this one.

– I didn’t see the final, but I guess Porter threw well for Easton and they left 10 men on base. The Cobourg runs came on a solo shot, and double that came around to score on a wild pitch and failed pick off attempt.

– Donnacona went 1-3 I believe. Leclair pitched great against us. They got shut out by Team Ontario U19 team 5-0. I guess the Blue Sox game against Waterdown was a bit better as they only lost 4-3
