Alvinston Indians tie St. Thomas semi-final at one apiece

Tuesday evening in front of a solid crowd, the Alvinston Indians travelled to Glencoe for game 2 of the semi-final series. With the Indians down 1-0 in the series, a win was of the essence to even the series. Backed by a 4 hitter and 5 strikeout performance by pitcher Doug Chalrton, the Indians did just that. Charlton shutout the Glencoe squad, and had great defence behind him as well, earning the 4-0 victory.

The Indians opened the scoring in the first, when with two out Joe Triest reached base on a Fielder’s choice, advanced to second on a wild pitch, and scored on a RBI single by Doug Charlton. The game stayed 1-0 until the top of the fifth, when the Indians struck again. Andy Triest led off with a single, stole second, advanced to third on the over thrown ball to second, and scored on a wild pitch. Mike Black then singled, and scored on a clutch RBI triple by Scott Smith. Joe Triest then hit a sacrafice fly to left-centre, to score Smith from third. With a 4-0 lead, the Indians recorded the final nine outs for the win, and most importantly evened the series. Andy Triest was 2/3 for the Indians in the game, while Chris Welch was 2/2 for Glencoe. The Indians now return to home turf Thursday at 8:00pm, in game #3 of the series, in what should produce another solid crowd in Alvinston.
