KITCHENER — Is fastball dead in Waterloo Region?
Don (Pete) McIlwraith, for one, would like to know.
Regarded as the game’s world-wide epicentre as recently as two summers ago, the region has since seen two of the sport’s premier teams, the Kitchener Rivershark Twins and the Kitchener Krush, fold.
And now McIlwraith, a local fastball promoter, has sent out invitations to Waterloo Region’s fastball community for a symposium to discuss whether the game has a future here.
The meeting is Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Kitchener’s Activa Sportsplex.
All interested parties are invited to attend.
“I have no idea what might transpire,” he said this week. “I have information regarding some (world and national) events that could be bid on.
“But the question is — are the softball people in the K-W area at all interested?” Click here to read the complete story at “The Record”.
