We are delighted to be able to share the online version of the 2011 ISC Media Guide with our readers here at Fastpitchwest. The ISC takes a big step forward this year with the online version, making the publication available free, and to a much wider audience than was lucky enough to get their hands on the hard bound printed copy in the past. I’ll be ordering a printed copy as well, for my collection, but know that the digital version will be more accessible to a worldwide audience.
The creation of the Guide is a huge undertaking, spearheaded by the ISC’s Executive director Ken Hackmeister, with the final product managed by editors Ed Kirner and Blair Setford.
Kudos to Gale Bigbe of South Central College in North Mankato and her graphic art students, responsible for the production of the guide, and a tip of the cap to fastpitch’s own Scott Standerfer and (USA Jr. manager) Tim Lyon’s “Red Hat Media” company which makes the online digital version available to all.
Maddy Flanagan, fastball photographer par excellence. We are proud to note the outstanding work of Maddy Flanagan, the official “ISC Media Guide” photographer, who worked tirelessly in Midland, day after day to capture the many fine shots featured in the guide, as well as in the off season to sort, cull, and fine tune the shots for use in the guide.
To all involved in the project, well done.
p.s. Click here to view last year’s ISC Media Guide. . Nicely done, though mostly in black and white due to the production costs of color. The 2011 guide’s color is eye-poppingly good.

2011 ISC Guide Available in Print and Digital Versions
The annual ISC World Championship Guide has been published annually since 1955 but 2011 ushers in a new era for the publication. This year, the Guide in its entirety will be available, free of charge, in a digital format to view (and print) on line.
Because of this new venture into digital availability, we are publishing considerably fewer “hard copy” Guides. This reduction in the print version quantity does result in a higher cost per copy of the Guide – – as it will be $25 per Guide.
Here are features of the 2011 Guide.
156 pages – the largest we’ve ever had
All team photos, Hall of Fame photos and game action photos are in full color
Full statistics of the 2010 World Tournament, ISC II Championship, Legends and Boys U19 tournaments
17-pages of ISC All-World players from 1947 to present
Complete ISC By-laws, rules and procedures
Digital version will have direct links to all email addresses and web sites
Digital version will have a direct link to view the 2010 ISC World Tournament championship game, free of charge, as it was streamed and announced
Our thanks
We owe a special thanks to various people who have made these dual versions of the Guide possible.
South Central College in North Mankato. Graphics Art students of instructor Gale Bigbee again did all our graphics and page layout work.
Scott Standerfer of Red Mat Media has developed the means to make our Guide available in digital format.
Dan Nessler of Promotions Powerhouse in North Mankato has worked closely with Gale Bigbee and Scott Standerfer to coordinate all aspects of the Guide and Dan’s company will handle the printing and shipping of the Guide.
Photographers Maddy Flanagan and Katie Ardouin took hundreds of high quality photos use in the Guide.
ISC Media Guide Editor Ed Kirner Passes the torch to Blair Setford
Editors Ed Kirner and Blair Setford again did a remarkable job in selecting photos, writing text and designing the basic layout of the Guide pages to say nothing of the hours spent proof-reading pages before final production.
Also this year, Ed Kirner passed the torch as managing editor to Blair Setford. Ed, who served as President of the ISC for 12 years and is now in his fourth decade with the organization, has done a fabulous job over the years in photo selection and overseeing content to ensure that the quality of the Guide is always top-notch. Blair, who has been the ISC II editor for the past six years, now assumes responsibility for the rest of the Guide and, as we move from a paper-based edition to digital, will provide the leadership to make this a smooth transition.

Jim Johnsonsays
Jim,
That’s pretty exciting. And It’s damn good work.
But will we be able to purchase any of the pictures in the Guide? It would be great if we could get them from Maddy’s online store. I’d like to have a hard copy of that picture with me and a bunch of guys in red shirts.
Hope y’all down there are rootin’ for our Canucks.
Yes, you can. I think most all of the Guide pics are in the online galleries at http://www.maddysphotos.com. (If not, email me and let me know).
Note that there are several galleries for the 2010 ISC World Tournament. The largest is the “Action” gallery, linked to the Maddy’s Photos logo above. Here are links to all, with the number of photos in each shown below (1510 in all):
