Legion minor softball returns for 54th season

COBOURG — Fastball players were back on the diamonds Saturday as the Cobourg Legion Minor Softball Organization kicked off its 54th season.
In addition to the games that were played on Saturday at Legion Fields, the house league players were marched onto the field by the Cobourg Legion Pipes and Drums for the opening ceremonies.
Close to 400 kids from 30 teams, including the affiliate squads from other communities, will play fastball with the CLMSO this summer. There are two tadpole teams, seven atom teams, 11 mite teams, five squirt teams and five peewee teams.
Eleven teams at the mite level is an astounding number.
“It’s nice to see maybe a bit of a resurgence,” said CLMSO chair Scott Bruce. Click here for the complete story and photos at Northumberland Today..
Editor’s note: For the many that ask why teams from Canada are so successful at the upper levels of the game, I’d say the foundation is built right here.
