Fastpitch team claims own tourney with 5 straight wins
The Shaw Chiropractic men’s fastpitch softball team had the right formula for winning its own invitational title this weekend.
The second-year fastpitch team relied on solid defense, pitching and hitting to capture the 10-man tournament crown.
Shaw won its fifth consecutive game, 10-4, against the Shakespeare (Ontario) Falcons in the finals Sunday afternoon at Pine Grove Park.
“It was a great weekend and great tournament,” said Kurt Schieman, the Shaw manager. “Our defense was tight with one error in six games.

Port Huron entered the weekend ranked 34th in the country, according to the recently released June 24 ISC World rankings. In winning the tournament, they knocked off# 16 ranked Ashland OH Stock Pack and #17 ranked Shakespeare Falcons (in the championship game), and finished ahead of the #18 ranked Alvinston Indians. They also finished ahead of #26 ranked Sweaburg ON, though fell to them on Friday night, their only loss in the tournament. (Sweaburg was eliminated by Shakespeare)
