#5 Explorers knock off #2 Chicago/NY and battle champion Black Sox to the end
The Midland Explorers finished tied for 3rd in this past weekend’s Legends Tournament held at Peter Hallman Ballyard in Kitchener, Ontario. The team went 4-2 on the weekend, losing to tournament champions New Zealand Black Sox in the semi-final 5-4. Next action for the Explorers is July 15th in Tavistock, Ontario. Team record for 2011 is now 10-2.

Shea Bryant Drove in Steve Horning with a Sac Fly for Midland’s run. Lam, Beane and Horning each were 1×3. Brandon Horn and Ian Fehrman each had 2 hits, Greg Courneyea was 3×4.Game 2 – Explorers 8, Wellington Sox 2
WP – Gregg Garrity, LP – Mel Ross
Eddy Ketelhut had 3 homeruns and Gregg Garrity had 2 homeruns. Each finished 3×4. Steve Horning was 2×3. Julio Guzman had a solor HR for Wellington.Game 3 – Explorers 5, Quyon Combat 4

Garrity and Ketlhut each had another homerun for the Explorers, and Steve Horning was 2×3. Joran Graham and Joel Langford each had 2 hits for Quyon.Game 4 – Explorers 7, KW Cubs 1

Rowan Lam had a double, triple and 3 RBI. Kyle Beane was 4×4 with 2 RBI. Dan Loney and Dale Levy each had 2 hits. Grant Baechler (HR), Adam HIllard and Allan Phibbs each had 2 hits for KW.Game 5 – Explorers 2, Chi/NY Dominicana 0

Dan Loney led off the game with a HR, and Steve Roberts singled in Dale Levy for the 2nd run. Garrity threw a two hitter (Shannon 2B and Wilson 1B).Game 6 – New Zealand Black Sox 5, Explorers 4
WP – Pinese Iosefo (Nathan Taikato started), LP – Grant Patterson
Ben Enoka hit a Grand Slam in the 2nd inning, but the Explorers scored 2 in the 3rd (Lam 2-run HR) and 2 in the 4th (Horning RBI and Roberts scoring on a wild pitch) to tie the game. A Tyson Bartarillo single scored Enoka with the go-ahead run in the bottom of the 4th for the eventual game-winning run.
