BUNDABERG softball players Sam Daff and Adrian Taylor are preparing to compete at the 2011 Softball Australia International Youth Cup in Sydney next week.
The International Youth Cup is part of the development pathway for elite young softball players.
Daff will compete as a member of the Australian under-19 men’s gold team and Taylor will play for the Australian under-17 boys’ squad.
Other competitors in the boys’ division of the tournament will include an Australian under-19 men’s green team, two teams from New Zealand and also metropolitan and country teams made up of players from New South Wales and Victoria.
A total of seven girls’ teams and eight boys’ teams will participate in the tournament, to be played between next Monday and Friday at Blacktown Olympic Park.
The 18-year-old Daff, who plays in third base and outfield positions, is a member of the 2011 Australian Under 19 Men’s Softball Squad and will aim to gain selection in the under-19 team to represent Australia at the next Junior World Championship to be played in Argentina next year.
The Australian under-19 men’s team have won the past four consecutive Junior Men’s World Softball Championships. The team’s most recent victory was at the 2008 Junior World Championship played in Canada. Click here for the complete story and photo.
