Cameron Henderson simply loves pitching. Fast balls, curve balls, drop balls, the change up and even a knuckle ball – not a bad lot to have in the kit bag for an 11-year-old.
This variety on the mound combined with a packet of stellar performances has seen Henderson selected in the NSW Primary School Sports Association (PSSA) softball team.
“I was shocked,” Henderson said after hearing his name read out.
“But I was excited to make the team.”
The year 6 student from Thornton Public School was picked in the NSW PSSA squad following the state championships at Woolooware late last month.
Contesting his first state titles in the school system, Henderson pitched in each one of Hunter’s matches and the team conceded just eight runs across three days of competition.
Hunter went down in the first two games on day one but struck back with a vengeance, remaining undefeated for the rest of the tournament. Click here to continue reading.
Editor’s note: And we in the USA wonder where those pitchers come from……
I would have to guess that Cameron is related to Kiwi pitching legend Kevin Henderson who now lives in Australia.
Kevin was one of the first Kiwis to hurl for a US team when he and Loren Algar came to Cedar Rapids Iowa in 1976.
