OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. — Fourteen years after being inducted into the Softball Canada Hall of Fame, Woodstock’s Ray Tilley has achieved international recognition.
Tilley was one of six players who received the required votes at this past weekend’s International Softball Federation’s XXV Congress. The induction ceremony will be held in Canada at a later date.
Tilley enjoyed a distinguished softball career at both the national and international level. He was an original member of Softball Canada’s Men’s National Team formed in 1983, and was a national team player for 12 years. During that period, he played a major role in Canada’s four Pan American Games gold medals (Caracas 1983, Indianapolis 1987, Santiago de Cuba 1991 and Parana, Argentina 1995).
His most notable success, however, came in 1992 in Manila, where he played an integral role in Canada’s gold medal victory at the ISF men’s world championship. During his career, Tilley also collected a silver medal (Midland 1984) and a bronze (Saskatoon 1988) at the ISF worlds.
Tilley was dominant at times on the world stage, putting up gaudy offensive numbers against some of the game’s top pitchers. Click here to continue reading.
