Oklahoma’s Lauren Chamberlain and Destinée Martinez help U.S. claim gold medal at Junior Worlds
Softball duo leads United States to 4-1 victory over Japan.

Oklahoma softball players Lauren Chamberlain and Destinée Martinez helped guide the U.S. Junior Women’s National Team to its second straight gold medal at the International Softball Federation Junior Women’s World Championship on Saturday with a 4-1 victory over Japan.

The U.S. dropped the semifinal game to Japan on Friday, but routed Chinese Taipei 12-3 in the bronze medal game to set up the rematch with Japan.
Cheyenne Tarango hit a grand slam for the U.S. in the championship game.
Chamberlain and Martinez each played in 10 of the 11 games, and Chamberlain tied for the team lead in home runs with two.
