The California A’s, the highest ranked team out west, # 6 in the world topped the # 23 ranked Alvinston Indians of Ontario Canada Sunday, 4-2. The A’s scored single runs in the first, second, fifth and sixth innings, breaking a 2-2 tie in the late innings for the win. Sean Whitten and Derek Mayson combined for the win, with Whitten surrendered but one hit in his four innings of work, striking out 9.
Matt Palazzo was 2 for 3 driving in a run. In the fifth, Kevin Schellenberg provided the eventual game-winning-run, greeting reliever Ryan Swift with a solo homer to start the inning. Bob Rostenhausler also had an RBI, while Marcus Tan scored an unearned run, reaching on a fielder’s choice, stealing a base and coming home to score.

The A’s will return to action today at 2pm Eastern, 11am on the west coast, against the #11 ranked Kegel Black Knights of Fargo North Dakota. Kegel won their first game of the tournament, 6-2 over the Wellington Sox of Harriston Ontario Canada.
