In a memorable match for Argentina defeated Mexico 13-12 in the last match of the day, and thus secured first place in Group B of the World Championship. Mexico started the game in a big way, going ahead 10-2 at the end of the third inning, but from there the hosts tried a historic comeback, to come forward in the seventh and keep the meeting.
The last game of the day started so electrifying. At the top of the first inning, two-run put Argentina on the board and went to the front, reassuring the fans that packed the stadium again Nafaldo Cargnel. However, the Mexican side responded with their bats, scoring four in the first, four in the second and two more in the third, to the astonishment of all present.
However, at the top of the fourth inning scoring three runs woke Argentina, with the unconditional support of over 4000 people in attendance to support the home team. Already in the sixth inning, a triple and a huge Malarczuk Ladislao homer by Juan Zara differences shortened left, putting the game 10-8.
Thus, Argentina reached its final at-bat trailing by two runs, and the best was yet to come. Mata Huemul brought to the plate the first run with a double to right, putting runners on second and third with one out. And pinch-hitter Daniel Aranaz homer gave the time to put Argentina ahead in the score, with a two-run single. That play sparked Nafaldo Cargnel Stadium, which looked like the home team went ahead in the score after being down most of the game. Argentina would score two more runs to put the result 13-10 and bring tranquility to bias Argentina.
However, the Mexican team returned to the charge. Three consecutive singles left the bases loaded for the Mexican side, and with one out Daniel Lopez drove Misael Rodriguez and Cesar Castañeda, leaving his team trailing by just one run. However, with runners on first and second and one out, Juan Carlos Villalvazo hit a liner for the second, which was trapped by Malarczuk air, besides removing the runner from second, who was picked off base.
Thus, Argentina won a stunning comeback in a memorable night in the city of Paraná. With this result, the home side kept the first position Jan l Group B with five wins in as many presentations.
Mexico’s potent offense knocked out 17 hits in the loss to Argentina, and will still make the playoff round. They play Canada at 6pm local time today, to determine seeding for the 3rd and 4th place spots in their pool. (Argentina won out, for the top spot, Japan lost only to Argentina, will be # 2 in the “B” pool.
In pool A, unbeaten USA and AUS will battle at 8:30pm local time for the top spot, with the loser falling to #2, New Zealand third. It appears at present that the 4th spot in Pool A will go to Denmark. Denmark is up 12-0 over India midway in their game. The win would give Denmark a 2-4 record in pool play, same as Venezuela, but Denmark won the head-to-head matchup against Venezuela.
