The eight playoff teams have been determined, following Denmark’s 12-0 win over India this morning, on the final day of pool play in the 2012 ISF Jr. Men’s World Championship at Parana, Argentina.
Teams qualifying for playoff round:
Pool A
1/2. AUS/USA (both 5-0, playing each other tonight at 8:30pm)
3. NZL (3-2, last game today vs. Singapor)
4. DEN (2-4, head to head winner over Venezuela)
Pool B
1. ARG (6-0)
2. JPN (5-1)
3/4. CAN/MEX (both 3-2, playing each other tonight at 6pm)
The all-important seeding is still up in the air, and will be determined by the two nightcap games Wednesday.
The 6pm game between Canada (3-2) and Mexico (3-2) will send the winner to an opening round game vs. Denmark (2-4), while the loser draws New Zealand. Denmark is the only country advancing to the playoffs with a losing record. New Zealand finished third in Pool A, but took the world champion Aussies to extra innings and lost by a single run to unbeaten USA.
The 8:30pm game between Australia and the USA will determine the top spot in Pool A, with the loser facing unbeaten host Argentina, while the winner draws Japan.
The playoff format is has 4 teams from each of the two pools squaring off:
A3 v. B4
B3 v. A4
A1 v. B2
A2 v. B1
