The Pala Braves defeated Maccabi USA 5-3 to win the 4th Annual BreederRupp this past weekend in Santa Fe Springs, CA. . Pala got there by knocking off the Tijuana Rhinos in one semi-final while Maccabi got a 2 out, 2 run walk off Home Run by Mitch Brim to down top seed J&B Painting in the other semi-final. It was a terrific Championship game with Sonny Perkins and Russ Snow matching up on the mound. MUSA jumped out 2-0 but Pala came right back to tie the game then tacked on 3 more and led 5-2. Perkins allowed only one more run and made a terrific defensive play on a bunt to snuff out a potential MUSA rally and help secure the victory.
All in all it was a great weekend of Fastpitch and no better way to honor two legends of the game in Dave “Breeder” Blackburn and Ronnie Rupp who were on hand all day Saturday and Sunday.
One of the highlights from the weekend was seeing Rupp take the ball for the Long Beach Black Sox, the team that he and “Breeder” played on together for dozens of years.
In a courageous effort to say the least, Rupp battled Maccabi in the quarter-finals falling 5-2.
Special thanks to Sage Auto, Robert Hernandez, Robert “Aggie” Aguilar and Balboa Fastpitch for all of their help making this event a success.
